HOMILY FOR THURSDAY THE FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER 4/5/2023

 ACTS 13:13-25/PSALM 89:2-3,21,22,25,27/ JOHN 13:16-20

SERVICE

“Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him” (John 13:16). Service is what makes a servant relevant.

Jesus recounted severally in this gospel that he is one with the Father; because he came to do what the Father sent him. Believers are called to serve. Service makes us one with him. Again, we are to serve in humility especially in a society that celebrates pride.

Lastly, the first reading tells us how Paul became a preacher after his conversion. After all the persecutions against Christains, Paul eventually submitted to the Master in service to the same Christian body.

No one is greater than the Master. Jesus exemplified his service by washing the feet of his disciples, we too are expected to do the same in service to others. H. Jackson Brown Jr. says   “Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others.” Beloved,  A man is great not because of the number of servants he has but because of the number of those he serves.

LET US PRAY

Father, we thank you for the gift of this day. Bring all our actions under the influence of the Holy Spirit. May we be of help and service to those we meet. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
