HOMILY FOR MONDAY, THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER (15/5/2023)

WITNESSES

ACTS 16:11-15; PSALM 150; JOHN 15:26-16:4

Jesus said to the disciples, “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning.”

We have a duty to testify on his behalf. To testify is to bear witness, to preach and teach in his name. In the first reading, Paul went to Macedonia to preach the Gospel. His preaching was so powerful that many accepted Jesus as their Saviour. How do we testify today? Are there still true witnesses in the Church?

Pope Francis in his Apostolic Exhortation “the Joy of the Gospel” reminds us that “every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization.” Are we actively engaged in evangelization?

Beloved, be disposed to the Spirit. Jesus reassures us that the Holy Spirit, the Adovcate, who comes from the Father, will help us in bearing witness to the gospel, regardless of the various challenges and persecutions.

LET US PRAY

Father, we thank you for this new day. Lord Jesus, have mercy and save us. Through the Holy Spirit empower us for greater actions, make us true witnesses and give fruitful results to our labour. Amen.
