ACTS 22:30, 23:6-11; PSALM 16; JOHN 17:20-26
Perseverance and unity
In the first reading, Paul was brought before the Council in Jerusalem because of his belief that the dead will rise to life (Resurrection). He was arrested yet he did not give up on preaching the gospel. After his release the Lord told him in a vision to go to Rome to spread the gospel. By the strength of Christ Paul remained steadfast (Phil.4:13). Beloved, true followers of Christ don’t give up because of trials. James 1:12 says “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
On the other hand, in the gospel Christ prayed for unity for all believers. This unity entails that we should relate with love despite the conflicts and misunderstandings that exist among us. United we can stand, divided we fall. Beloved, unity begins with “U”. What is your contribution towards unity in your family, office, school, community and nation? Let us stand for the truth despite the trials in the city.
LET US PRAY
May your Spirit, O Lord, we pray, imbue us powerfully with spiritual gifts, that he may give us a mind pleasing to you and graciously conform us to your will. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
