Witness regardless of comfort
ACTS 28:16-20, 30-31; PSALM 11; JOHN 21:20-25
Paul came to Rome held under house arrest, yet he continues to share the gospel. Captivity is not an end to witness. By this passage St. Luke the author of the Acts of the Apostles demonstrated that the faith extended beyond the walls of Jerusalem to the heart of the ancient world, Rome, and this narrative serves as the epilogue to the Acts of the Apostles
Similarly, we are presented with the closing verses of John’s gospel today. The author tells us a lot has been written about Christ and there are other things that Jesus did that were not written. However, what we have is all that we need for our faith – if we are willing to accept it. Franz Werfel says “For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.” Therefore, if we believe what we have is enough for salvation.
Like the beloved disciple in today’s gospel we are called to ‘testify’ to the ‘great things the Lord has done’ in our lives. In Luke 1:49 Mary testified saying “For the Mighty One has done great things for me, holy is his name.” Paul was never limited by crises and captivity.
As we celebrate Children’s Day today, we pray for the grace of excellence and success upon all our children. They will grow higher, bigger and greater in the knowledge of Christ and the fear of the Lord.

Come Holy Spirit and fill our hearts with divine light that we may become true testimonies to our world. Rekindle in us the fire of divine love and may we be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation, through Christ, our Lord.
