The Golden Rule
GENESIS 13:2, 5-18; PSALM 15; MATTHEW 7:26, 12-14
Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and those of Lot’s because the land was not sufficient to accommodate both of them. Rather than fight over things they settled themselves amicably. We can actually settle issues amicably.
Abraham demonstrated to Lot that their relationship mattered more than their disagreements over wants and material possessions. In what ways do you illustrate that people are more important than stuff and desires? How can you prioritize the relationships in your life?
Jesus says in the Gospel, “Treat others as you would like them to treat you”. This is known as the Golden Rule. It is the principle of treating others as one wants to be treated. Oftentimes we pride ourselves over nothing. Like Abram and Lot we must learn to treat one another well and settle dispute amicably.
LET US PRAY
Father, have mercy moments we made things and desires more important than people.Help us to always demonstrate your love for others instead of getting sucked into pointless and senseless arguments. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
