GOD’S PROVISION
EXODUS 16:1-5, 9-15; PSALM 78; MATTHEW 13:1-9
Psalmist says “In their heart they put God to the test by demanding the food they craved. They even spoke against God. They said: ‘Is it possible for God to prepare a table in the desert?’” (Ps.78). God overlooked the complaints of the Israelites and answered the prayers of Moses. He gave them quails and manna from heaven. It’s possible for God to prepare a table in the desert. However, we must exercise faith and trust in Him. The disposition of our faith and heart is a necessary condition to experience God’s supernatural power not only in quails and manna but in creativity and ideas.
In line with this, Jesus gave us the parable of the sower. Just as the condition of the soil affects the growth of a plant, so the condition of our hearts affects our spiritual growth. Our hearts should be like the good soil that guarantees fruitfulness. More so, our mentality can as well make or mar our relationship with God.
Today the Church celebrates the memorial of saints Joachim and Anne the grandparents of Jesus Christ. This celebration reminds us to honour grandparents and the elderly. For Pope Francis, just as the elderly need young people, young people need the elderly, “especially in this throw-away culture.” If young people and elderly don’t meet and talk, “history does not go on, life does not go on”. Saints Joachim and Anne, pray for us.
LET US PRAY
Father, we put our trust in you to supply all our needs according to your riches in glory. Like the good soil may our hearts guarantee fruitfulness. Amen.
