The Greatest Treasure
EXODUS 34:29-35; PSALM 99; MATTHEW 13:44-46
Exodus 34:30 says “…Seeing the skin of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.” Moses did not apply skin-lightening lotion; instead, he reflected God’s light. When Aaron and the sons of Israel saw him, the skin on his face shone so brightly that they would not approach him. Moses met God and radiated the same, as he does every time he encounters God. When we connect with God in prayer, we experience the same thing. Our spirit is so electrified in prayer that no darkness can withstand its radiance. The greatest treasure on earth is not riches or silver, but God’s presence.
Speaking on treasure Jesus gives us the parable of the hidden treasure and the fine pearl in the gospel reading. He says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field that someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns, and buys the field. ‘ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value, he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.’” Beloved, the kingdom of God remains the greatest treasure; whoever discovers this fact must renounce the world in order to attain it.
LET US PRAY
Father, teach us to value the place of prayer over and above other desires. Teach us to radiate your presence wherever we go and help us to conquer all that wants to distract us from your kingdom. Amen.
