HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1

Always on God

1 Corinthians 6:1-11; Psalm 149; Luke 6:12-19

The narrative for today gives details on how Jesus chose his twelve disciples. Jesus prayed all through the night before making his choice. This acts as a prompt to take some time to pray before making important choices.

Never choose a life partner over a beer bottle or a serving of fried rice. Consider your options carefully, and pray. Where wisdom says wait; emotions say hurry, in prayer we find God’s help and guidance.

In spite of his prayers, Judas Iscariot, the traitor, was still one of his disciples. Imagine if he had not prayed at all. Praying may not eliminate challenges, but it assures lasting victory.

St. Paul reminds the Colossians in the first reading of all that Christ has accomplished for them and for us, including forgiving all of our sins, sharing his divinity with us, and releasing us from all that might otherwise separate us from God’s love. So let’s keep designing our life to always be in line with him. Let’s live in Christ’s rhythm and style.

LET US PRAY

Father, have mercy and forgive us. Give success to our plans and decisions, and grant us the knowledge of salvation. Amen.
