HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK

 Peter and Judas

Isaiah 49:1-6; Psalm 71; John 13:21–33, 36–38

In the gospel, Jesus, the Light of the Nations, was at supper with his disciples but became troubled in spirit and suddenly foretold Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial.

Between Peter and Judas, there are some similarities and differences. Jesus once referred to them as devils (Matt. 16:23 and John. 6:70–71). Judas betrayed him (Luke 22:48). Peter denied him (Math. 26:70–74).

On the other hand, Peter repented; Judas did not. We all have sinned, but repentance makes the difference. Let us repent of our sins and stand as the light of the nations.

On this Holy Tuesday, let’s repent of every evil plot in our hearts. Let us imitate Christ, who is the light of the nations and has brought the dawn of the Lord’s salvation to the ends of the earth.

Let us pray.

Almighty, ever-living God, grant us so to celebrate the mysteries of the Lord’s Passion that we may merit to receive your pardon. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
