Saul’s Conversion
ACTS 9:1–20; PSALM 117; John 6:52–59
The first reading presents us with the conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus. This was a major U-turn in the life of Saul. It brought about a change of name, a change of heart, a change of mission, and a change of character.
Conversion must go beyond the change of names. At baptism, people bear saintly names, but afterwards, their names do not match their lives. Conversion is not a change of name but a change of heart. The result of a genuine conversion is transformation. Saul was transformed, and he began to preach in the synagogues. After our conversion, we must endeavor to make Christ known.
The response to today’s psalm challenges us further, saying, “Go out to the whole world; proclaim the good news.” Beloved, many will not know God unless we speak. Many will not know that the flesh of Jesus is real food and his blood is real drink if we do not speak to them about it.
Many people wallow in ignorance because they have not been taught. It is our Christian duty to teach; one of the spiritual works of mercy says, “Instruct the ignorant.” Instruct them; do not destroy them.
*LET US PRAY*
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that we, who have come to know the grace of the Lord’s Resurrection, may, through the love of the Spirit, rise to the newness of life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
