HOMILY FOR THURSDAY TWELTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR

Faith and trust

2 Kings 24:8–17; PSALM 79; Matthew 7:21–29

In the gospel, Christ calls us to build our house on solid ground for stability, solidity, and safety. The Word of God is the solid ground. Faith and trust in the Word of God make us wise, and in the days of storm and flood, we shall stand firm.

In the first reading, King Jehoiachin and his people fell into the hands of the Babylonians because they turned away from God and no longer trusted him. We endanger ourselves when we turn away from God. We expose ourselves to our enemies each time we refuse to pray. When we fail to trust in God, fear begins to stir our lives and hopes. In order to remain victorious, we must stay connected.

Let us pray

Father, amidst the trials of our days, may we not lose heart. By the power of the Holy Spirit, make us strong and healthy. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
