HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE THIRTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Save us, Lord.

Amos 3:1-8, 4:11-12; Psalm 5; Matthew 8:23-27

The first reading of today reminds the people about their sin against God and warns them of the Lord’s punishment if they don’t repent. Thus, the Lord asked, “Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid?” Beloved, we must not wait for the sound of a trumpet before we align ourselves with God.

Today’s Psalm further reminds us that no sinner is the Lord’s guest; all who lie he destroys; the deceitful; and those who shed blood he detests.

Therefore, like the disciples in the gospel reading of today, we must cry out to the Lord, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” Save us, Lord; we are sick. Save us, Lord; we are sinking. Save us; the storm is heavy. Some of us go through colossal waves of apathy, dread, doubt, despair, and addiction. If we call on the Lord in truth and honesty, our boat will not capsize.

Let us pray.

Almighty Father, hear us, help us to abide by your instructions, and save us!
