HOMILY FOR MONDAY, THE TWENTY-FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Pharisaic Behaviour

2 Thessalonians 1:1–5, 11–12; Psalm 150; Matthew 23:13–22

Believing, preaching, and practicing are basic themes in the Bible. It is unfortunate that many people today are becoming believers; preachers are increasing, but only a few practice. Consequently, society is experiencing an upsurge in evil.

In today’s narrative, Jesus chastises the scribes and Pharisees. He referred to them as blind guides because, as leaders, their way of life barred men from entering the kingdom of heaven. How are we different today? Do we practice what we preach?

Paul’s letter in the first reading emphasises the importance of perseverance, faith, and the glory of God. Paul teaches that God’s justice will prevail, and we should focus on living a life worthy of His calling.

Let us pray.

Lord, help us to persevere in our faith, even in the face of challenges. May our lives reflect Your glory, and may we share in the glory of Christ. Amen.
