HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY, THE TWENTY-SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

Embracing the Power of Prayer

 Galatians 2:1-2, 7-14; Ps.117, Luke 11:1-4

Today’s Gospel presents Jesus as the ultimate model of prayerful devotion. As He teaches His disciples the Lord’s Prayer, we are reminded of the transformative power of prayer.

Jesus begins with “Our Father” (Luke 11:2), acknowledging God’s paternal love and care. This prayer encapsulates life’s essence: past, present, and future. It seeks protection from evil, victory over sin, and forgiveness.

As St. Paul writes in Galatians 2:7-14, our faith is not based on human efforts but on God’s gracious initiative. We access this grace through prayer.

Let us reflect on our own prayer lives: Do we approach God with childlike trust? Do we seek forgiveness and extend mercy to others? Do we recognize God’s sovereignty over our lives?

Prayer

O Lord, you are good and forgiving, full of mercy to all who call to you. Give ear, O Lord, to our prayers and save us from the punishment our sins deserve. Amen!
