HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY, 29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME II

BE READY

Ephesians 3:2-12, Isaiah 12, Luke 12:39-48

Today’s gospel reminds us of the imperative to be prepared for the unexpected return of the Son of Man. Jesus cautions, “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour” (Luke 12:39-40). This call to readiness is not a summons to anxiety.

Christ wants us to be vigilant in our expectations so we are not tempted to become complacent or distracted. If we are truly vigilant, then we shall realize that Christ’s return is not a catastrophe but a celebration—a homecoming for the faithful. He assures us, “Blessed is that slave whom his master will find at work when he arrives” (Luke 12:43).

Procrastination and carelessness can creep in when we perceive Christ’s return as far. It can bring about reckless use of time. Time is a precious gift; wasting it is tantamount to squandering our very lives. Let’s make good use of our time and cooperate with the grace bestowed on us (Ephesians 3:2-12).

Prayer

Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to overcome darkness and embrace Your light. Holy Spirit, dispel our fears and fill us with hope through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
