HOMILY FOR MONDAY, 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (St. Charles Borromeo)

The Motive of Giving

PHILIPPIANS 2:12-18; PSALM 27; LUKE 14:25-33

Today’s readings remind us that our generosity should be motivated by selfless love, not personal gain. We often prioritize rewards, recognition, or social status, but Jesus teaches us to give without expecting return.

In Luke 14:12-14, Jesus says, “When you give, do not invite those who may repay you.” This isn’t a condemnation of reciprocity, but a call to kindness and generosity beyond self-interest. We should include the marginalized, recognizing that in Christ, the humble are exalted.

As St. Paul urges, “Be of the same mind, having the same love” (Philippians 2:2). Let us strive for unity, love, and compassion, regardless of financial status or strength. Inspired by St. Charles Borromeo, may we embody selfless love.

 Prayer:

Heavenly Father, forgive our self-centeredness. Grant us strength to do Your will and keep us free from troubles. Amen.
