HOMILY FOR TUESDAY, 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

God’s invitation

Philippians 2:5-11, Psalm 22, Luke 14:15-24

Today’s Gospel presents a poignant parable about the Kingdom of God, illuminating God’s universal plan for salvation. This narrative emphasizes the gravity of our response to God’s invitation.

Through the Church, we have all received this invitation. However, our responses vary, echoing the behaviors depicted in the parable. Some reject the invitation outright, while others violently oppose it. Moreover, some fail to don the requisite attire.

As Paul reminds us in the first reading, Christ’s selfless sacrifice united Him with humanity. In light of this extraordinary act, can we justify our reluctance to make sacrifices for the Kingdom?

Let us reflect on what may separate us from God’s Kingdom. May our minds and hearts remain open to God’s invitation.

Prayer:

Gracious God, grant us the courage to accept your invitation to enter your Kingdom. Empower us, through the Holy Spirit, to resist opposing forces and face life’s challenges with resilience and faithfulness. Amen.
