HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY: THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Fertile soil: Fruitful heart

Hebrews 10:11-18; Psalm 111; Mark 4:1-20

Today’s Gospel presents us with the parable of the sower, whose seed fell in various places. The seed represents the Word of God, and the soil symbolizes the heart. This parable illustrates how soil conditions can impact growth.

The condition of one’s heart determines the spiritual growth of their life. Just as the soil needs to be fertile and well-cultivated to produce a bountiful harvest, our hearts need to be receptive and nurturing to bear fruit. We are called to cultivate hearts that are open to God’s Word and willing to receive it. We are called to be like the good soil that guarantees production and fruitfulness.

Prayer

May our hearts be receptive to Your Word, Lord, and may we nurture a deep and fertile spiritual life. Grant us the grace to be like the good soil, producing abundant fruit for Your glory. Amen.
