HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Light of Christ

Hebrews 10:19-25; Psalm 24; Mark 4:21-25

“Is a lamp brought in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed, and not on a stand?” Jesus is the Lamp to be placed on the lamp stand. The light of Christ must shine. We are carriers of His light to the world.

At baptism, we are told to keep this light burning brightly. If this light is kept under a bed, it will not shine brightly. To sustain this light with a proper energy level, we must have a clear conscience, as the first reading noted.

Beloved, we must strive daily to shine brightly through our words and actions. Light attracts likeness; light is loved, and light is always preferred to darkness. Let’s shine and attract many to God.

Prayer:
Father, help us to shine brightly with the light of Christ. May our words and actions attract others to You. Give us the courage to let our light shine, that we may bring hope and joy to those around us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
