HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF LENT

God’s Compassion

Isaiah 49:8-15, Psalm 145, John 5:17-30

Today’s readings remind us of God’s care and compassion. In Isaiah 49:8, the Lord says, “At the favourable time, I will answer you; on the day of salvation, I will help you.” Psalm 145:8 reiterates this theme, saying, “The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love.”

Jesus teaches us about God’s compassion and love, saying, “My Father is still working, and I also am working” (John 5:17). Despite the Pharisees’ hostility, Jesus continues his mission, showing us that our relationship with others should reflect God’s love and compassion.

– Let us learn to be compassionate and slow to anger.

– Our relationship with others should enhance their knowledge of God.

– Through acts of kindness, compassion, and love, let us work to make the world a better place.

Prayer

O God, who rewards the just and offers pardon to sinners, have mercy on us. May our admission of guilt serve to obtain your pardon for our sins. Amen.
