HOMILY FOR MONDAY:  TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II

2 Kings 17:5-8, 13-15, 18; Psalm 60; Matthew 7:1-5

In the first reading, the people fell away from the Covenant and were in exile because of that. This is exactly what sin does to us; it takes us back to exile, a state of absence from God. In the reading, we are presented with the unfaithfulness of the northern kingdom of Israel and how they fell into the hands of the Assyrians and the faithfulness of the southern tribe of Judah and the glory they enjoyed consequently. Faithfulness to God pays. In the gospel we are told not to judge. This is not an absolute statement against judgment such that, when we try to correct wrongs people we say don’t judge him – leave him for God. While the gospel rejects rash or hasty judgment, it allows us to first of all examine ourselves very well before passing judgment. Thus, we must be free from the logs in our own eyes; we must be free from prejudice and bias. Lord grant that we may be faithful to you in all we do and come to enjoy eternal reward. Amen.

Prayer for Faithfulness

O Lord, I ask you to please make me a faithful servant who will remain loyal to you always. I also pray for your other servants throughout the world. Please give everyone courage and strength to serve you well. Empower us to consider serving you our prime goal. Let your servants’ efforts bear fruits for your kingdom; let our various efforts lead to the salvation of souls so that devil can be ashamed and your name be praised through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this,
like you wrote the book in it or something.

I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog.
A great read. I will definitely be back.
