HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE NINETEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Childlike Faith and Personal Responsibility

Ezekiel 18:1-10, 13, 30-32; Psalm 51; Matthew 19:13-15

In today’s gospel, Jesus welcomes children and teaches us valuable lessons about humility, innocence, and faith. Like children, we must approach God with openness, curiosity, and simplicity.

Let us embrace the qualities of children: wonder, awe, and trust. Jesus says the kingdom of heaven belongs to such a group a group as these. This means we must become like children: humble, gentle, and free from pride. Let us not hinder others, especially children, from coming to Jesus.

Today’s reading from Ezekiel reminds us that our choices have consequences. We can’t blame our past or our parents for our mistakes. Each of us is accountable for our own actions. Ezekiel also emphasises personal accountability, God’s justice, and the importance of repentance and forgiveness.

Let us pray

Father, have mercy and forgive us. Grant us the knowledge of salvation and revive us again. Amen.
