HOMILY FOR THURSDAY THE TWENTY SIXTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II (MEMORIAL OF THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS)

Faith and service

Job 19:12-27, Ps.27, Luke 10:1-12

Job 19:12–27 reminds us of the importance of faith. Job, amidst immense suffering, declares, “My Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth” (Job 19:25). His confidence in God’s redemption sustains him, despite the torment.

When faced with challenges, we must cling to Job’s declaration: “My redeemer lives.” As 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 encourages, “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed.” Speak to your situation and declare, “My redeemer lives.” Though I am afflicted, I am not crushed, and though men rise against me, I will not faint for my redeemer lives.

In the gospel, Jesus sends out 72 disciples to spread the good news. We’re called to emulate the disciples’ selfless service. But, as we serve others, we must remember Christ’s instruction: “The kingdom of God has come near.” (Luke 10:8-9).

Beloved, through Job’s faith and the disciples service, we are reminded that as we go forth, we must hold forth.

St. Theresa whose memorial we celebrate today is known for suffering and sacrifice. She embraced suffering as a means to grow closer to God and help others

Prayer

Almighty Father, as we serve, remind us of our salvation. As we go forth, empower us to hold forth Your truth. Amen
