Christ’s Fire and DIVISION
Ephesians 3:14-21, Psalm 33, Luke 12:49-53
Today’s Gospel presents a seemingly paradoxical Jesus, speaking of fire and division. This appears to contradict His usual message of peace and unity. However, upon closer examination, we find that Christ’s fire symbolizes spiritual enthusiasm, countering apathy and boredom. This divine spark ignites within us a passion for the Lord, transforming our faith experience.
Christ’s’ fire is the fire of spiritual enthusiasm. It 1. Inspires fervent prayer and meditation. 2. Transforms the Mass into a profound encounter with God. 3. Encourages zealous witness, impacting others.
Christ’s’ division speaks of courageous witness. It 1. Sets us apart to impart truth and justice. 2. Challenges us to confront injustice and evil. 3. Calls us to serve peace, rather than merely keeping it.
True peace, as Jesus teaches, is built on goodness and justice. We must not confuse peaceful coexistence with complicity in evil. The “peace of the graveyard,” where truth is silenced, is not the peace Christ offers.
Prayer
Almighty, ever-living God, grant us the grace to conform our will to Yours. May we serve Your majesty with sincerity of heart. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
