The Armor of God: Spiritual Triumph over Evil
Ephesians 6:10-20, Psalm 144, Luke 13:31-35
Today’s Gospel and Epistle emphasize our spiritual struggle against evil. Jesus warns, “You will be hated by all because of my name” (Luke 13:31-33). Yet, we are not defenseless.
St. Paul exhorts us to “put on the full armor of God” (Ephesians 6:11), comprising: 1. Truth 2. Breastplate of righteousness 3. Gospel of peace 4. Shield of faith 5. Helmet of salvation 6. Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) 7. Prayer
These spiritual tools empower us to resist doubt, false doctrine, and Satan’s deceptions. In Luke 13:34-35, Jesus laments Jerusalem’s rejection, illustrating the consequences of ignoring God’s love. However, our armor ensures we remain steadfast.
Prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
