HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II

REPENTANCE: A UNIVERSAL CALL

Philippians 3:3-8; Psalm 104; Luke 15:1-10

Today’s Gospel reminds us that like the lost sheep, we all have the tendency to stray from the right path. Our pursuit of worldly desires, fame, wealth, and power can lead us astray.

Even those who appear spiritually strong or intellectually sound can be lost morally. Hence, Isaiah prophetically declared, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned to our own ways” (Is. 53:6).

Repentance, therefore, is a universal call – we all have need of repentance. This repentance requires a genuine change of heart and behavior, not merely tears or superficial sorrow. St. Paul’s experience teaches us that true conversion demands change, diligence and perseverance.

As we reflect on our lives, let us ask ourselves; have I strayed from the path of righteousness? What areas of my life require repentance and conversion? Am I living a life of authenticity and integrity?

PRAYER

Father give us the strength to overcome our weaknesses and the grace to sustain a life of faith. Amen
