HOMILY FOR FRIDAY, FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT, YEAR 1

Encountering Jesus

 Isaiah 29:17-24, Psalm 27, Matthew 9:27-31

As we journey through the first week of Advent, we reflect on the prophetic words of Isaiah, foretelling the arrival of the Messiah. This promised savior would usher in a new era, exalting the lowly, silencing evil, and lifting humiliation (Isaiah 29:17-24).

Today’s Gospel recounts the transformative encounter between Jesus and two blind men, demonstrating the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy (Matthew 9:27-31).

Jesus, born to redeem us from sin and shame, liberated these men from physical and spiritual darkness. Their faith sparked a miraculous healing, illustrating the profound impact of a personal encounter with Christ.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord, it’s another opportunity for an encounter. Let us approach Him with faith, seeking: Healing, liberation from emotional and spiritual bondage. Wisdom, discernment to navigate life’s challenges, and Salvation, redemption from sin and its consequences

Prayer

Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to be receptive to Your guidance. Rescue us from evil’s grasp and save our souls from eternal death. Amen.
