HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT

Returning to God’s Path

Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 96; Matthew 18:12-14

Today’s readings remind us of our tendency to stray from God’s path. Like the lost sheep in Matthew 18:12-14, we often seek greener pastures, miracles or solutions, only to find ourselves lost.

Isaiah 53:6 echoes this truth: “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each turning to our own way.” Yet, our compassionate Father eagerly awaits our return.

God’s love and care for us are unwavering. In Isaiah 40:1-11, we find comfort in God’s shepherd-like care. He gathers, feeds and protects His flock. The Psalmist reinforces this, saying, “The Lord is king; let the earth rejoice” (Psalm 96).

Heaven rejoices when we repent, and our Father’s mercy beckons us to return. As we journey through Advent, let us acknowledge our straying, seek forgiveness and follow God’s path. May we remain open to God’s guiding hand.

Prayer
Lord, bless us and save us. Grant us the courage to return to Your path, and may Your mercy guide us throughout this Advent season. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
