TRUSTING IN GOD’S PLAN

Judges 13:2-7, 24-25; Psalm 71; Luke 1:5-25

Today’s readings offer us a glimpse into the lives of two remarkable women, Manoah’s wife and Elizabeth, who, despite their barrenness, were chosen by God to bear sons who would play a significant role in the salvation story.

The birth of Samson, announced by an angel, foreshadowed the birth of John the Baptist, whose arrival was also heralded by the angel Gabriel. In both instances, God’s plan was fulfilled despite the seemingly impossible circumstances.

The Bible is replete with stories of barren women who, through their experiences, gave birth to men who would shape the course of history. These women, including the mothers of Isaac, Jacob, Samson, and Samuel, demonstrate that God can transform even the most desolate situations into opportunities for growth, redemption, and glory.

As we reflect on these stories, we are reminded that God’s plan is not limited by our circumstances or abilities. Even when we feel barren, dry, or hopeless, God can still work through us to achieve His purposes. In the face of doubt and uncertainty, let us turn to God, trusting in His plan and His promise to never fail us.

Prayer

O God, who through the childbearing of the Holy Virgin graciously revealed the radiance of your glory to the world, grant, we pray, that we may venerate with integrity of faith the mystery of so wondrous an incarnation and always celebrate it with due reverence. Amen.
