MONDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR

DOMINION OVER DEMONS

 Hebrews 11:32-40/Psalm 30/ Mark 5:1-20

The demon-possessed man possessed weird strength. The gospel says he wrenched chains apart and roams around causing disorder because no one could subdue him. They couldn’t subdue him probably because they tried to subdue him with their own strength.

We can’t defeat demonic operations by using physical might, but spiritual might. “You have given man dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet” (Psalm 8:6

Again, we can win spiritual battles if we rely on the Lord through faith. The first reading of today tells us that through faith Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets conquered kingdoms.

Another way to prevail over demonic torture was described in Eph. 6:10-11″Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”

The Gospel also noted that the Demoniac ‘lived among the tombs; and no one could restrain him any more’. Do we occasionally have the impression that you are trapped in a tomb? Do we ever feel as though we are in a lifeless environment? Do not be discouraged. Our hope will not disappoint us.

LET US PRAY

Father, have mercy on us and through the Holy Spirit help us to be submissive to you in every situation. Give us strength to resist demonic forces. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
