HOMILY FOR THURSDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Mission

Hebrews 12:18-19, 21-24; Psalm 28; Mark 6:7-13

In the gospel, Jesus sent the disciples out two by two with the message of repentance. The mission of the Twelve is the basis of our faith today. Mission keeps the church alive. If the church does not send out, it may end.

For continued growth, we must imbibe mission ideals and accept it’s challenges; service, reliance on God, repentance, persecution, holistic healing and restoration, pastoral teaching, unity, collaboration and life style proclamation. In addition, Jesus also enjoined us to avoid distractions: financial, emotional, and the like

Hence, the first reading reminds us that we have come to Mount Zion. In biblical usage, “Mount Zion” often means a city rather than the hill itself. It is the place where Yahweh, the God of Israel, dwells (Isaiah 8:18; Psalm 74:2). Therefore, let’s us conduct ourselves becomingly. It’s sad how believers fight over material things.

Saints Paul Miki and his Companions, pray for us

Let us pray

Father, give us grace to do your will so that we may enjoy your peace. By the power of the Holy Spirit, free our minds from distractions. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
