SOLEMNITY OF ST. JOSEPH, HUSBAND OF MARY

St. Joseph

2 Samuel 7:4-5, 12-14, 16; Psalm 88; Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22; Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24

In the first reading, God promised David that his throne would stand secure forever, a promise echoed in Psalm 90: “His dynasty shall last forever.” This promise was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Gospel. Despite our own faithlessness, God remains faithful, keeping every promise He makes.

Today, the Church celebrates the solemnity of St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. Joseph was a man of faith and trust. He followed the promptings of the Holy Spirit and played his part in the great plan for the salvation of the world.

Let us reflect on his exemplary life of obedience, trust, and surrender to God’s will. May we learn from his humility, silence, and devotion to protecting and caring for others. Like St. Joseph, may we balance prayer and labour, trusting in God’s providence and obeying His commands.

LET US PRAY:

Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that by Saint Joseph’s intercession, Your Church may constantly watch over the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation, whose beginnings You entrusted to his faithful care. Lead us in the ways of peace, humility, and grace. Amen.
