HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY:  FEAST OF ST MARY MAGDALENE

SONGS 3:1-4 PSALM 63; JOHN 20:1-2, 11-18

The Song of Songs tells of a person seeking the one whom he loves as we can see in Mary Magdalene seeking the Lord after she had discovered the empty tomb. Today’s feast presents us with some inspiration from the life of Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene, like all of us, was a sinner. But after her deliverance she loved Jesus passionately. Precisely because of that  she became the first witness to the Resurrection. As the first witness to the Resurrection, Mary had the great responsibility of announcing this news to the Apostles. For this reason, St. Thomas Aquinas called her the “Apostle of the Apostles.” Thus, the role of women in the task of evangelization is very essential and should never be underestimated. More so, she is regarded as the patron saint of converts because she followed Christ zealously after her conversion. She followed Jesus to the foot of the Cross – a mark of true discipleship. St. Mary Magdalene, pray for us!

PRAYER FOR THE CONVERSION OF SINNERS.

Lord Jesus Christ, most merciful Saviour of the world, we humbly beseech You, by Your most Sacred Heart, that all the sheep who stray out of Your fold may in one days be converted to You, the Shepherd and Bishop of their souls, who lives and reigns with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.
