Jeremiah 26:1-9; Psalm 69; Matthew 13:54-58
In the first reading, Jeremiah preached to the people in regards to their repentance or destruction as he was commanded. In response the people rebelled against Jeremiah. In the same vein, Jesus was rejected by his own people in the gospel reading. Thus, he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Beloved in Christ, our faith determines our fate. If we are not open to God’s word then it will not work in us either. If we receive him; then he will receive us and empower us.
St Ignatius of Loyola, whose memorial we celebrates today, calls to be open to God’s word through a 30-day retreat popularly called Ignatian retreat. This retreat is designed for four weeks; each week with a basic goal. Week one: to “reform the deformed”— Week two: to “conform the reformed”—Week three: to “confirm the conformed”—Week four: to “transform the confirmed”. Therefore, anyone who is open to God’s word and abide by his instructions will experience transformation. St Ignatius of Loyola, pray for us
Prayer of Surrender
Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess You have given me: I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these I will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more. Amen
