HOMILY FOR THURSDAY NINETEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

EZEKIEL 12:1-12; PSALM 78; MATTHEW 18:21-19:1

The Gospel reading presents us with the theme of forgiveness. Christ wants us to forgive not once but indefinitely. As Christians forgiveness is our business. There is no limit to God’s mercy or as to the number of times we can go to confession. In the parable given we are called to forgive our neigbours as their debts are smaller compared to what we owe the King. If you find it difficult to forgive devote time to pray for the ability to do so and pray the ‘Our Father’ often. Precisely because of this, in the first reading, God calls the people to repentance through the symbolic expressions of Prophet Ezekiel. God always want to have us back to himself, he desires our salvation. Thus, as the Lord is merciful with us so we must be merciful with others.

Let us pray (Say this loudly)

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
