1 CORINTHIANS 2:1-5; PSALM 119; LUKE 4:16-30
*********
In the first reading, Paul says to the Corinthians that he did not use clever arguments and philosophy to assert God’s existence; rather he preached a crucified saviour and allowed the Holy Spirit to work in him. Beloved, the message of conversion is not based on how clever you are but the will and working of the Spirit. This same theme continued in the Gospel reading. Jesus preached to his own people but they rejected his message. Prophetic voices being rejected by their own was a common phenomenon in the past and continues to be today. People don’t see the working of God in familiar sources or persons. Am I inclined to accept the message of God or reject it? Today, let us consciously look for the extraordinary among the ordinary.
Prayer for Faith
Lord, I believe: I wish to believe in Thee. Lord, let my faith be full and unreserved, and let it penetrate my thought,my way of judging Divine things and human things. Lord, let my faith be joyful and give peace and gladness to my spirit, and dispose it for prayer with God and conversation with men, so that the inner bliss of its fortunate possession may shine forth in sacred and secular conversation. Lord, let my faith be humble and not presume to be based on the experience of my thought and of my feeling; but let it surrender to the testimony of the Holy Spirit, and not have any better guarantee than in docility to Tradition and to the authority of the magisterium of the Holy Church. Amen.
