HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE TWENTY-SIXTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Job 1:6-22; Psalm 17; Luke 9:46-50

The first reading presents us with Job’s affliction. He represents those who serve God faithfully and yet endure sufferings and hardship in their lives. Job went through his crisis with the mindset of praise; he refused to say or acts in contrary to God’s will. Thus, his popular quote “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Beloved, we must learn to accept the trials that we face with the mindset of faith and praise. Without faith, trials become problems. But where faith is expressed trials are springboards for greatness. Christ gives another secret for greatness in the gospel; he says that we must be humble. No one becomes truly great without humility. Humility opens the heavens.

LET US PRAY

Lord, help us to humble ourselves like children and give us the faith to persevere in the times of hardship that we may gain eternal life. Amen.
