HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OCTOBER 2ND   MEMORIAL OF THE GUARDIAN ANGELS

Job 38:1,12-21;40:3-5/ Ps. 139/ Luke 10:13-16

A guardian angel is an angel that is assigned to protect and guide a particular person, group or nation. Ps. 91:11 says “For he has given his angels charge over you, to keep you  in all thy ways.”  In Matt.18:10 Jesus says “Beware lest ye scandalize any of these little ones, for their angels in heaven see the face of My Father.”  It is written that the Lord Jesus was strengthened by an angel in the Garden of Gethsemane, and that an angel delivered St. Peter from prison in the Acts of the Apostles.  Both the Old and the New Testaments attest to the fact that  every human person has a Guardian Angel.  Today’s gospel reminds us about judgment: we will be judged according to our deeds and to our reaction to God’s many gifts to us. More so, there will be retribution to those who do not listen to Jesus and those he has sent. The angels have been sent; Heb.1:14 says Angels are ministering spirits, sent to minister to those, who shall receive the inheritance of salvation. We pray for a deeper awareness of the presence of our guardian angels in our race to heaven.

Prayer to Guardian Angel
