DAY FOUR (Isaac’s Marriage)
(Gen. 24:3- 4). “You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live, but you shall go to my country and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac”
After Sarah died, Abraham realized that he must take the initiative and make plans to find a mate for his son. That is not the way our children find their marriage partners, but for that time and culture it was a beautiful love story. The Canaanites were a vile race, cursed by God and doomed to destruction. God would not be pleased for Isaac to marry one of them. Mesopotamia became the only logical place to find a wife for Isaac. While we do not choose our children’s mates for them anymore, we must teach them from their earliest days the importance of marrying believers ( 1 Cor. 7:39; 2 Cor. 6:14). It will help them find God’s choice of a life partner when the time comes for that important decision to be made.

- Lessons:
That we must not play favorites: Isaac and Rebekah had favorites. Isaac enjoyed Esau, while Rebekah preferred Jacob. This was a mistake.
We must forgive each other: Married couples must keep in mind that fights and arguments can and will happen in marriage. Isaac and Rebekah’s marriage showed how dangerous not forgiving one another really is. They grew increasingly apart from each other. And although it is very commendable that Isaac never had another woman in his life, it is tragic that their relationship slowly became like that of roommates living inside one house.
Marriages can start well, but will need effort to keep them well: Genesis 24:62-67 tells us how Isaac and Rebekah’s relationship started off well:
We must avoid arranging a wife or husband for our children: Despite being an arranged marriage Isaac loved Rebekah. decades later, we read how distant they grew from each other. The gap in their relationship grew so thick that: and that Rebekah would hatch a plot where Isaac would be tricked to bless Jacob instead of Esau (Genesis 27).

PRAYER FOR GETTING THE RIGHT MARRIAGE PARTNER (Pray it twice either for yourself, children or a friend).
Father God, your word in Genesis 2:18 makes it clear that it is not good for a man to be alone. You also said in Gen2:24 that a man shall leave his father and mother nad cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh. I know, Oh God, that your plans for me are plans for good and not of evil as said in Jer.29:11. Therefore, my God, connect me now to that man/woman you created to be my husband/wife. Let him/her come and let every process that is necessary for our being united as husband and wife be fulfilled in your own time, way and place, I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, I make this prayer standing on your word in Isaiah 34:16 where you said, “Search and read the scroll of the Lord: Not one of these will go missing, not one will lack her mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.”
I believe what your word says that none shall lack her mate; therefore, I declare that I shall not be without a mate. Your Omniscient Spirit knows who and where my mate is, O Lord. Proceed therefore, precious Holy Spirit and arrange that situation or circumstance that will bring us together and unite us as you have already ordained. Help us to form a formidable team that will advance your kingdom and bring glory to your Holy name, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
