HOMILY FOR THURSDAY 31: SEVENTH DAY IN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS

1 John 2:18-21; Psalm 96; John 1:1-18

Today is the last day of the year 2020. It has been an eventful year that leaves lasting memories. We thank God for his mercies, care, protection and provision. Many forces were on stage but in all God prevailed. Ps. 124:2-6 says “if the Lord had not been on our side when men attacked us, when their anger flared against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, then the floods would have engulfed us, then the torrent would have overwhelmed us, then the raging waters would have swept us away. But blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth.” Thus, God has preserved us till date for a purpose. For a while let us reflect on these questions: Why are we alive? What is the meaning of life? Where are we coming from? Where are we going to? Why are we growing old? The gospel says that those who accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord will become children of God. Precisely because of this the first reading reminds us that we are children of God. As children of God we have a duty and responsibility to live Christian lives and to proclaim Christ. Beloved, life has no meaning outside God. Find time today to reflect; look back to learn and look forward in hope. God bless you!

Let us pray

Father, thank you for strength, health and wealth. Thank you for peace and love. As we go into the Year 2021 help us to remain in you. With you we shall succeed! Give us the grace to always heed your word so that we can fulfill the purpose for which you have created us. Amen.
