JONAH 3:1-10; PSALM 51; LUKE 11:29-32
********
“The Ninevites turned from their evil way.” Jonah was sent to the people of Nineveh to warn the people of God’s wrath at their wrong-doing. They received Jonah’s message with so much remorse, declared fasting and penance and they repented. This story reminds of the importance of penance and its rewards. If we repent of our sins we shall gain God’s friendship and enjoy his favour. Similarly, Jesus warns the people of his days. He told them that they shall be given no sign except the sign of Jonah. We too are warned; we must turn away from sin and return to the ways of the Lord if we are to be saved. Like today’s psalm let us ask God for pardon and forgiveness.
PRAYER
Father, I confess my sins before you today because your word says that you are faithful and just to forgive my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I know that I have let you down by giving in to the desires of the flesh and by living outside of your will for me, but I come to you knowing that you can forgive me and cleanse me from all of my wrongs, have mercy and make me whole again. Amen.
