HOMILY FOR FRIDAY THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT YEAR 1 (12/3/2021)

HOSEA 14:2-10; PSALM 81; MARK 12:28-34

“You are not far from the kingdom of God”. In the gospel Jesus answered the scribe on his question of the greatest commandment saying; Love is the greatest commandment. Thus, anyone who loves God above all things and his neighbour as himself is not far from the kingdom of God. The implication is that any Christian who claims to love God above all things but cannot love his neighbour is far from the kingdom. Beloved, where are we in this kingdom? In the first reading, Hosea calls us to conversion and assures us of God’s promise. Therefore, if we turn to God every other thing shall be added; but if we turn to the world we shall lose our promises.

LET US PRAY

Thank you for Your Holy Spirit, Who is making me to be more like Lord Jesus. I want to reflect your grace and your beauty in thought, word and deed. I ask that I may devote my time and heart to reflect on all You are and all You have done for me, so that You are magnified more and more in my life, so that the beauty of my Lord Jesus may be seen and reflect in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
