ISAIAH 7:10-14, 8:10; PSALM 40; HEBREWS 10:4-10; LUKE 1:26-38
Annunciation simply means announcement. Nine months before Jesus was born, the angel Gabriel was sent to the Virgin Mary to announce the conception of the Son of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary answered “yes” to this divine assignment. Mary made herself available for this task and said yes to God’s will. Similarly, the response to today’s Psalm says “Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.” Beloved, we must make ourselves available and equally do God’s will. We must learn to do God’s will. Marriage is not about the will on the man or the woman but the will of God. Anyone who has been sent must know that it is not about his will but the will of the one who sent him. Jesus at Gethsemane made the same confession “Not my will but Thy will be done” (Luke 22:42). In the Lord’s prayer we asked that God’s will be done. “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10). No doubt, many who said “Yes” to God are doing their will and this has corrupted Christianity today! Therefore, the Annunciation of the Lord offers us the opportunity to say “Yes” to God’s will!
LET US PRAY
O God, who willed that your Word should take on the reality of human flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, grant, we pray, that we, who confess our Redeemer to be God and man, may merit to become partakers even in his divine nature. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
