FR. OYODE: THE UNBOTHERED

Padre Thomas OYODE

(Musings on Naija, May 1, 2021)

She cares little, this giggling nude toddler
Look! Like birds in the sky children walk the street
Unfettered ’bout how to put garri on the table
Kpim! War rudely visits, calm takes a swift flight

Boy, you’re ready with the price to take mama’s life?
Little daughter, that dross of a Benz is but a coffin
Ah nah, leper! So you say to my fustian verse too
Alas! You embrace it anyway like your eyes are be’olden

Yes “my mother never chop and this won’t choke.” Brava!
We are unbothered! Don’t care, he’s not your brother

Man of God you saunter around in our Versace shoes
Yet stutter before the power at the Rock. Kilode?
No milk in our tea but your jet flies high with proud speed
Flaunt the tenths of our wealth, it’s from God, you don’t bother?

I am a bad boy too, my head’s unbothered
It’s not my headache, I’d power my generator
Bore a hole and create my own water
Bandits trample over their children, my army stands at my door
I don’t care, I’d be’ the last and I’d die so unbothered.
