HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (28/5/2021)

ECCLESIASTICUS 44:1, 9-13; PSALM 150; MARK 11:11-26

The first reading calls us to praise illustrious men. Our ancestors who in their successive generations have done good deeds and communicated same to their descendants. Their legacies speak so much about them. Ben Sirach says these men are worthy of praise. Unlike some who have left no memory and disappeared as though they never existed. Beloved, Ben Sirach distinguishes between these two kinds of people because he wants us to imitate good deeds. He wants us to be men of purpose and impart. As Christians, our relevance in the Kingdom is judged by the number of souls we win. We must be productive. No Christian should appear before Jesus unproductive like the fig tree. Therefore, let us not live life as though we never existed.

LET US PRAY

Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your Children may rejoice, untroubled in their devotion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
