HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE ELEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 19/6/2021

2 CORINTHIANS 12:1-10; PSALM 34; MATTHEW 6:24-34

Jesus says “Do not worry about tomorrow: your Father knows your needs”. Worrying is one of our most common and destructive daily habits. If we don’t control it, it controls us and endangers our health. Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. Let us take life easy – one thing at a time. If you treat every situation as a matter of life and death, you will die many times before your final exist. Therefore, we must learn the approach of St. Paul in the first reading. Rather worrying over his weakness; he accepted his weakness and acknowledge the function of grace. Somehow our weaknesses open us up to receive the mercy and strength of God more than our strengths. But often times, we are quick to deny our weaknesses. We are humans but we don’t accept that we are weak and frail. When we deny our weaknesses we deny the reality of God’s grace and mercy. Beloved, do not let your heart be troubled (John 14:1); God’s grace is sufficient for us (2Cor.12:9).

PRAYER

Loving God, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can’t seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly. Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you’ve laid out for me.
