MICHELLE MOMOH
Where is the Nigerian of my dreams?
Where is the nation filled with milk and honey?
I weep and gnash my teeth
The blood of the innocent weep continuously for vengeance.
Lazy we were tagged; yet our desire for a better future is cut short
We are not young John but still they are the wicked producers in my nation.
****************************
The educational sector is destroyed
Our quest for formidable education is gone with the wind
Kidnapping and killings rule the land
Now we suffer in the hands of our GOVERNMENT daily
And left battered and bruised from their major kicks and blows.
****************************
Masters of the craft of animosity, brutality and injustice
Creators of pain, penury and punishment.
They paint the nation red, with our blood
the streets beautified with our lifeless bodies.
****************************
They snuff out our dreams like a python snuffing the life off it’s prey
The uncouth, uncultured, and uncivilized rule the land
Living cadavers as my government
****************************
Parents are left to mourn dead children and lost heirs,
Cut off in their prime by thugs in law enforcement:
Their uniforms; tickets for extortion,
Their offices; avenues for intimidation,
Their weapons; instruments of oppression.
****************************
Nigeria stand up and say: ENOUGH!
We’ve had enough of the killings and victimization,
Never again shall we suffer unjustly by them
It’s time to put an end to this ungodliness and oppression
Time to end brutality in all forms.
****************************
We cry out with one voice, asking for a change,
We deserve to live free from fear and harassment
In our own Goddamn country and nation
We deserve to free it
I long for the Nigeria of my dream
Freedom!!!
