HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (MEMORIAL OF ST. ALOYSIUS GONZAGA) 21/6/2021

GENESIS 12:1-9; PSALM 32; MATTHEW 7:1-5

“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged”. We need this instruction every day of our lives! Often times we are quick to notice what others have done wrong but slow to recognize the same failures or worse ones in ourselves. Today’s gospel rejects hypocrisy; it rejects harsh and hasty judgment and desires us to have compassion towards the weaknesses of others. Again, today the Church celebrates the memorial of St Aloysius Gonzaga.  He was born in Castiglione in northern Italy in 1568. He refused to allow corruption and worldliness take hold of his life. He was pure and the Church praises his chaste life with the words “Thou has made him little less than the angels.” Beloved, Aloysius is holiness exemplified and God wants us to be holy. Precisely because of this God called Abraham to leave his Father’s house in the first reading.  Our call is an invitation to holiness. Lord Jesus, help us in our own imperfections.

LET US PRAY

O God, giver of heavenly gifts, who in Saint Aloysius Gonzaga joined penitence to a wonderful innocence of life, grant through his merits and intercession, that, though we have failed to follow him in innocence, we may imitate him in penitence. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
