Judges 9:6-15; Psalm 21; Matthew 20:1-16
The Gospel presents us with the parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard. In this parable the Landowner paid his workers equal amount irrespective of the time spent in labour. This does not suggest injustice towards the workers but the generosity of the manager. God is the best manager and the reward for our labour is salvation. Secular managers are guided by the principle of first come, first served. Jesus says “The last will be first, and the first, last” (Matt.20:16). This means irrespective of the time of arrival anyone who puts God first shall never come last. On the other hand, the first reading speaks of the fable of Jotham that shows how responsible individual abandon leadership role for the reckless to handle and the result was poor leadership. If we abandon our duty others will make a mess of the system. Beloved, accept a responsibility, put God first and you shall not come last.
LET US PRAY
Father, as we go about our duties help us to be diligent. Give us the grace be grateful for your gifts and not be envious of others’ benefits. Amen.
