HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 (6/9/2021)

COLOSSIANS 1:24-2:3; PSALM 62; LUKE 6:6-11

In the Gospel, Jesus miraculously restored a withered hand. The Scribes and Pharisees rose against it because of Sabbath’s protocols and structures. For Jesus, every law must give expression to love and compassion. No law is against genuine love and care. Without love we cannot care for those with disabilities. The restoration of the withered hand is a clear justification that our hands have been released. Therefore, let us stretch out our hands to love and care for the needy and disabled. Let us care for them spiritually and physically. St. Paul manifested this genuine love and care for the Colossians in the first reading. He gladly went through sufferings and pains to ensure that the Colossians remain faithful to the message of Christ. Let us use our knowledge, gifts and power to help not hinder. Let us not use laws to hinder God’s work.

LET US PRAY

God our Father, you redeemed us and made us your children in Christ. Look upon us, give us true freedom and bring us to the inheritance you promised. Give us an excellent spirit throughout this week and beyond; we ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
